Since the Civil Rights era, the share of American children raised in father-absent homes has more than tripled, from roughly one in eleven in the 1960s to nearly one in three today. This is not a peripheral social trend. Decades of research link father absence to measurably higher rates of violent crime at the neighborhood level, even after accounting for poverty and other structural factors. the steady presence of an engaged father remains among the strongest predictors of a child’s success in school, work, and life. The Fatherhood Society exists to reverse this trend by funding the organizations restoring fathers to the center of family life, because when fathers are present, children, families, and whole communities do better. Fatherhood is essential because it significantly impacts a child’s development, providing emotional support, a sense of security, and guidance, leading to higher self-esteem, better academic outcomes, and a reduced risk of negative behaviors. Good fathers provide emotional development and well-being for their children. They have a positive impact on academic performance, teach valuable life skills and increase family cohesion.
